Explore, Learn, Protect at Fort Donelson National Battlefield

With the 159th anniversary of the Battle of Fort Donelson just a few days away, now is a great time to join the ranks of the junior and not so junior rangers! Are you interested in the history and want to know how Ulysses S. Grant gained one of his most important victories in the Civil War? Do you want to get outside and explore nature and learn how to protect different parks while in the process?

If you do, here at Fort Donelson National Battlefield we have a fun program for you. It’s called the Junior Ranger Activity Guide. Interested individuals can complete a series of activities or the entire book if you would like to earn a special badge from Fort Donelson National Battlefield. These activity guides and badges are part of a larger program park service wide. Many National Parks allow younger and older visitors to complete these Jr. Ranger books and give them the opportunity to become an official Junior Park Ranger.

A variety of activities will be available. Afterwards, bring it to a Ranger or mail in the Activity Guide. If you can be here in person, a Ranger will lead you in the Junior Ranger pledge. This will encourage you to follow the Junior Ranger motto by exploring, learning, and protecting all National Parks.

Come by Fort Donelson National Battlefield or visit virtually online at https://www.nps.gov/.../Electronic-Version-of-Junior... and get your copy of Fort Donelson’s Junior Ranger Activity Guide, so you can become a Jr. Ranger today.

If you are unable to meet a ranger in person to earn your badge at Fort Donelson National Battlefield, you can mail your Jr. Ranger Activity Guide to us with a return address at:
