World's Biggest Fish Fry - It's Back!

From the Paris Post-Intelligencer, by Michael Williams

The World’s Biggest Fish Fry is officially returning this spring.

After the 67th annual version had to be canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 68th anniversary Fish Fry will take place April 17-24, the last full week in April, according to Chris Martin, president of World’s Biggest Fish Fry Inc., which works closely with the Paris-Henry County Jaycees to sponsor the Fish Fry.

“We plan on having a full-blown Fish Fry,” he said, after the board made the decision Wednesday evening.

Martin said it’s too late to schedule new Fish Fry pageants this spring, and the royalty selected last year didn’t have a chance to reign during a Fish Fry week. So last year’s royalty will have that honor this April.

Also, the same carnival from the 2019 Fish Fry will be returning this year, the demolition derby will take place April 17 and the Championship Bulls and Barrels Showdown will have to be trimmed to two nights, April 23-24.

The grand parade will be on April 23, which is Friday of Fish Fry week.

Martin said the board is confident a pretty fair percentage of the people coming to the Fish Fry will have a chance to receive the COVID vaccination by then.

He also said he personally believes COVID isn’t going away, so the community needs to figure out how to proceed with big local events like Fish Fry.

The board will be providing hand-sanitizing stations and asking the public to wear face masks and for families to remain six feet apart at the parades and as many of the other events as possible.

“We would love to have volunteers to help with sanitizing,” he said, especially at the fish “tent.”

Church groups, civic organizations and individuals are asked to volunteer by calling the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce at 642-3431.

He said the Jaycees just don’t have the manpower to add that chore to their long list of things to do during Fish Fry, so volunteers are really needed to help keep the community safer, especially sanitizing picnic tables and commonly touched areas at the fish tent.

Let's Talk About The Weather

Just a week ago, we were all bragging about what a mild winter we've had at Paris Landing.  Well, Winter finally arrived.

Temperatures are dipping into the teens and sleet and snow are in the forecast.

Last night we dodged the predicted 3" of snow when the clouds parted - as they frequently do here - and the snow went around us.   Today and tonight the forecast is for 5" to 8".  Great time to stay home and cook chili.  Everyone be safe.

Junior Ranger Program

Paris Landing / Kentucky Lake KOA Holidayt

Only a 15min away from the Paris Landing KOA campground, FT. DONELSON NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD is must-see when in our area. For adults and kids, you can see the cannons, monuments, walk the land, visit the National Cemetary, and partake in the Junior Ranger Program, all to learn the history of this great nation at tough time in our Nation's history. #ParisKOA #AmericanHistory #FtDonelson #HistoryMatters

Explore, Learn, Protect at Fort Donelson National Battlefield

With the 159th anniversary of the Battle of Fort Donelson just a few days away, now is a great time to join the ranks of the junior and not so junior rangers! Are you interested in the history and want to know how Ulysses S. Grant gained one of his most important victories in the Civil War? Do you want to get outside and explore nature and learn how to protect different parks while in the process?

If you do, here at Fort Donelson National Battlefield we have a fun program for you. It’s called the Junior Ranger Activity Guide. Interested individuals can complete a series of activities or the entire book if you would like to earn a special badge from Fort Donelson National Battlefield. These activity guides and badges are part of a larger program park service wide. Many National Parks allow younger and older visitors to complete these Jr. Ranger books and give them the opportunity to become an official Junior Park Ranger.

A variety of activities will be available. Afterwards, bring it to a Ranger or mail in the Activity Guide. If you can be here in person, a Ranger will lead you in the Junior Ranger pledge. This will encourage you to follow the Junior Ranger motto by exploring, learning, and protecting all National Parks.

Come by Fort Donelson National Battlefield or visit virtually online at https://www.nps.gov/.../Electronic-Version-of-Junior... and get your copy of Fort Donelson’s Junior Ranger Activity Guide, so you can become a Jr. Ranger today.

If you are unable to meet a ranger in person to earn your badge at Fort Donelson National Battlefield, you can mail your Jr. Ranger Activity Guide to us with a return address at:
