Kayak Bass Fishing National Championship This Weekend

This is the granddaddy of all kayak fishing competition, with the top prize money ($35,000 minimum for first place in 2017), the deepest pay-out (projected to pay 40+ places this year) and the most KBF and Sponsor bonuses brings kayak bass fishermen from all over North America to Kentucky Lake on March 31-April 1, 2017.

The following article is from The Paris Post-Intelligencer
by Bill McCutcheon

A major national fishing championship converges on the Kentucky Lake area this weekend.
Kayak anglers from across the nation will be here through Saturday for the biggest showdown in competitive kayak fishing.
Kayak fishing is unique in that fish caught are not brought in for weighing. Obviously, live wells would hardly fit in a kayak.
Instead, the anglers put each fish they catch on a measuring board and take photographs.
When they come in, their photos are downloaded for competition.
Nearly 400 anglers are poised to stake their claim on the second ever title of KBF National Champion.
In addition to the KBF National Championship, there is also a KBF open event that is open to all anglers and currently has nearly 300 competitors signed up to compete. Between the two events, nearly 700 anglers will be in Paris this week.
The tournament is the second in the series with the first taking place last winter on Kentucky Lake where Matt Ball took home the first championship title as well as a check for $32,700.
The payout has increased a bit for 2017, with the first place guarantee set at $35,000 and the opportunity at thousands more in KBF “Bonus Bucks” contingency money, there is an opportunity for a competitor to walk away with over $50,000.
This significant payout is only made more impressive by the fact that the field is paid out with the top 10 percent taking home a check and many of those being larger than any other kayak fishing event in history.
Kayak Bass Fishing Tournament Series is comprised of three major series components: The KBF TRAIL, KBF State Challenge Series and the KBF Open Series.
Each of these serve as a path for qualification to the KBF National Championship while offering cash payouts and prizes from top manufacturers along the way.
While setting their sites on the KBF National Championship, many anglers also gun for the coveted KBF Angler of the Year title and qualifying to fish in a unique series called The TEN held each year at Bienville Plantation in White Springs, Fla.
The TEN puts the top ten anglers in the previous year’s Angler of the Year standings head-to-head for a guaranteed $10,000 payout for the champion of the two-day event.
The KBF National Championship will continue through Saturday with headquarters at the Henry County Fairgrounds.
The KBF State Challenge Series also begins Saturday, while the KBF TRAIL began two weeks ago in North Carolina and Kentucky and boasts over 50 events across the country.
