Paris, Tenn.-A total of $7, 497 was raised at this year’s Shiver on the River at Paris Landing State Park. Shiver on the River is held annually on New Year’s Day and raises funds for the REAL Hope Youth Center in Paris.

Twenty-nine people of all ages plunged into the chilly waters Sunday afternoon and were thankful that the temperatures were not as low—and that the wind was not as strong—as it had been in recent days.

Paris Mayor Carlton Gerrell, one of the original organizers of the event, handed out awards at a New Year’s brunch at the Paris Landing Inn for participants following the event.

Winning for raising the most funds was Dawn Hurney, who individually raised $2,212, and coming in second was Henry County Trustee Randi French.

The group prizes for fund-raising were: first, Henry County Clerk Donna Trustee and her group, who raised $3,725; second place, Walking the Plank headed by Susan Jones, raising $300; and third place, Alpha Omega Counseling, $225.

Winners of the outrageous costume awards were: first, Linda Lindsay; second, Walking The Plank; and third, the Matlocks.

Gerrell noted that with more donations set to arrive, the total for the event will be close to $8,000.
