Santa to Visit Paris on Black Friday

Photo and story courtesy of WMUF Radio 104.7 FM

Paris, Tenn.- Thanksgiving is next week, and Christmas is just barely a month away and after you’ve stuffed yourself with Thanksgiving meals, kick off the dash to Christmas in downtown Paris Friday November 28th with the North Pole Family Fun Day, sponsored by the Downtown Paris Association.

Santa, Rudolph, and the elves roll in at 10 am that morning on the Paris Fire Department’s Fire Truck and that ushers in a day of fun, free activities for youngsters until 2 pm.

In an exclusive satellite interview with Santa from the North Pole he said, “I can’t wait to see all the good little boys and girls in Henry County.” Santa, Rudolph, and the elves will take residence in the Gingerbread House on the courthouse lawn and visit with kids throughout the event on the 28th. Henry County High School Band Boosters will be on hand for photos with Santa.

The 4-H club will host a “make and take’ goodie table, with event goers can make their own goodies and take home. Commercial Bank will host a face painting station, where kiddos can have their face painted from 10 am until Noon.

Members of the HCHS Speech Team will read the Polar Express at the Old Depot on Fentress Street, now home of Vicky Muzzall’s Tax Service. Miss Vicky will also give away free whistles to all the youngsters who come to hear the Polar Express story.

The North Pole Family Fun Day also has trackless train rides, sponsored by Dr. Blake Chandler of the West Tennessee Bone and Joint Clinic, a petting zoo and pony rides courtesy of the DPA, and much more. For a complete schedule of events for the North Pole Family Fun Day and any event in the  2014 Downtown Unwrapped Series of events this season, log onto the website, visitdowntownparis.com.

What A Weekend!

The first annual Battle of Paris Landing & Civil War Living History Event and Chili Cook-off took place this past weekend and despite cold temperatures and gloomy weather there was a pretty good turnout.

Chili Cook Off Winners
Chili was judged by aroma, consistency, and taste.
     1.  Dish Pan Delight
     2.  Forests Fartless Chili
     3.  A-Bowl-A-Chili
     4.  Good Time Charlies

Men and women dressed in authentic Civil War clothing for the event. Events included a hayride, a talk on local Civil War history by Larry Ray of Paris and a display of area Civil War memorabilia collected by Dan Griggs of Dover.  A shot was fired from an authentic Civil War cannon every hour at the event. An Infantry and Calvary station was set up for people to see an authentic campground that one might have seen during the Civil War.

Chaz Durham of Big Rock and Robert Fuchs of Bradford were among those firing the antique cannon at this weekend’s Battle of Paris Landing Chili Cook-Off and Civil War Living History . The cannon was loaned by George Wallace of Dover for the event.

Super Moon Over Kentucky Lake

A few weeks ago we had a Super Moon.  And I mean a SUPER MOON over our beautiful Kentucky Lake.

The views of our lake aren't always quite this spectacular, but it's always a beautiful site.  These calming views are one of the things that makes Paris Landing such a special place to visit.

A special thank you to David Cullen of Memphis, Tennessee for sharing these photos with us.  They are just super!

If you have a beautiful photo of our lake, a great fishing photo, or other good photos showing off our neighborhood, we'd love to see them.  We might share them on this website and of course we give you credit for the photo.

Just Because They Like Us

We have a new "individual" member - Lisa Odom.

"Individual" members are really special to us because they join the PLTL just to be helpful because they really like us.   They don't want to advertise their business (which is a benefit for business owners who join) or toot their own horn.  They just want to be helpful - and sometimes we need all the help we can get.  There is a list of other Individual members shown in the right column of this page.

Lisa is the owner/operator of Hair Express at 107 S. Brewer St. in Paris and we are really glad to have her on board.

Welcome Lisa!
