Our Lake Is On Fire!

A fishing report by Sharon Seaton of  the Fishtale Lodge.

OUR LAKE IS ON FIRE!!!!   It's what fisher men's dreams are made of.

5:30 am - Blast Off.  A decision is made because of heat and making sure our fish are safe and released alive for future catching, weigh in will be at 1:30 rather than 3:00.

A 20 minute run down the lake to our first ledge.

6:30 am -   We have our limit! 5 good Keeper Bass.

6:35 am - Culling fish!  It cannot get any better than this!

Move on to our next ledge just for a change of scenery - and it's hard to leave a ledge that is holding good keeper fish. Trust me.

Culling again.  Bumping by a few ounces each time then by a pound then before you realize you've only 2 hours left to fish.  Where did the time go?  Constantly checking fish to assure they are ok.  Retying lines, changing lures, changing rods, grab a sandwich, drink some tea  - but never putting the rod down.  Too much action.  IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS.  Our lake is on fire!

There was a time when we worked so hard just for a limit, and a 5 fish limit of 12 or 14 pounds was great.  You were pretty much assured that you would be in the top 5.  Now if you aren't at least 18 to 20 pounds you feel you just had a good day but nothing to brag about.  5 fish limits are now ranging from 20 to 26 pounds to win and place.  OUR LAKE IS ON FIRE!

The fish are healthy, strong, beautiful colors and so plentiful now that we are on the map as one of the best fisheries in the United States.  What an asset for our Tourism Community.  It doesn't get any better than this.  If it does, I won't be able to stand it.  OUR LAKE IS ON FIRE!

Here's one example.  In the Weekend Series held here this past Saturday, a guy fishing the tournament caught a 9 1/2 pound bass.  Now I don't care who you are  -  you have a 9 pound Bass you get pretty confident that you've got Big Bass of the day in the bag.  You get to the scales, sure enough, Big Fish, photos, applause, great feeling - 9 1/2 pounder is your personal best.  What a trophy fish, what a great story, how many people will you get to tell the story with a play by play account of how you felt the bite, you fought her into the boat, your partner nets the fish, you fall out on the floor, the exact lure, the depth of water, the kind of line, the wind, water temp, structure, all the info is burned into your brain.

Then  -  another guy comes along with an 11 pounder!  WOW!!  It doesn't steal your thunder though because you can leave that out of your story.  But my point is - there are not many lakes in the United States that can say they have limits of fish weighing in at 28 pounds to 30 pounds.  Our LAKE IS ON FIRE!

As you can see in the following photos, David and Sharon Seaton are avid anglers fishing pretty much year 'round on our lake - Kentucky Lake out of Paris Landing.
